KMU’s reaction on the Killing of the Legislated Wage Hike

In behalf of the Filipino workers, Kilusang Mayo Uno condemns the killing of the P200 legislated wage increase.

An unapologetic lackey of the local bourgeois comprador and foreign monopoly capitalist, BBM made clear his opposition to the wage increase bill. BBM’s instruction and the Senate’s dilly dallying denied Filipino workers what could have been the first legislated nationwide wage hike in 36 years.

Years of struggle had finally pushed Congress to pass legislated wage increase which, while far below the amount for a family living wage, would have given Filipino workers some respite from the burgeoning inflation.

But BBM and his cohorts chose to serve their imperialist masters and denied Filipino workers even this bit of breathing space. This only proves that the current government and the current ruling system would not serve the people.

This is unacceptable. This is unforgivable. There will be a reckoning.

We call on all Filipino workers: let us show our outrage at this betrayal!

The fight for living wages continues outside the halls of parliament. Let us take our anger to the streets! Let us rely on our collective strength!
