National trade union center Kilusang Mayo Uno protested today against the anomalous conduct of the 2025 Midterm Elections.
Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairperson George Garcia touting the elections as an overall success is exposed as farce in the face of 5000 reported cases of election violations, asserted KMU. A majority of these are automated counting machine (ACM) errors accounting for 91% of all violations, according to election watchdog Workers Electoral Watch (WE Watch).
Red-tagging and black propaganda, primarily directed at progressive candidates, and brazen election-related violence by paramilitary groups, police, and military also marred the elections.
(“Worse than thieves in the night!” said KMU Chairperson Elmer Labog. “The COMELEC, the Marcos government, and the Dutertes have brazenly stolen genuine change from the hands of the people. They must be held accountable for desecrating the people’s votes!”)
According to KMU, these anomalies expose the harsh truth that rich and powerful trapos from political dynasties continue to dictate the outcome of our democratic processes.
KMU also revealed that these candidates are often backed by foreign interests. These include China aiding in the Dutertes’ disinformation project and the United States colluding with Bongbong Marcos to ensure its hegemony in the Indo-Pacific region.
(“We cannot expect genuine change under the dominance of the forces of kasamaan and kadiliman [alluding to the Marcos and Duterte camps]. Our strength lies in our unity and collective action!”
“Let us call for the immediate implementation of manual vote counting, and for it to be used if a recount of votes is proven necessary. Let us demand an investigation into Miru Systems for the anomalous Automated Counting Machines (ACMs). Together, let us condemn and hold accountable the COMELEC and the Marcos government for depriving us of a clean and honest election!”)
